Our Story

Winthrop Marketplace has been proudly family-owned and operated by the Wallerce family since opening its doors in June 1999. What began as the renovation of an old DPW building quickly became a neighborhood grocery store built on community, quality, and care. Founded by Marc Wallerce, Frank Carideo, and Karen Higginbotham, the Marketplace is still run today by Marc and his son, Chris β€” continuing a tradition of local, family-first service.

From the start, we’ve believed that a grocery store should feel like more than just a place to shop. Our team is family, and we treat our customers the same way. With friendly service, quality products, and good value, we strive to make every visit easy, welcoming, and enjoyable.

Each of our departments is led by experienced managers who are passionate about what they do β€” whether it’s preparing custom meat cuts, creating fresh bakery and produce platters, or helping with special orders. Going the extra mile for our customers isn’t just something we do β€” it’s who we are.

Throughout the year, you’ll find a wide variety of everyday essentials along with unique and seasonal items that make holidays and special occasions even more memorable. And if you don’t see what you’re looking for, just ask β€” we’re always happy to help.

For over two decades, Winthrop Marketplace has been proud to support the community that supports us every day. We invite you to stop by, say hello, and experience the difference of shopping local.
